Milongas in Krakow

What is a milonga?

Milonga means a place or a dance party where tango argentino is danced. In Buenos Aires, milongueros come to a milonga to meet friends, eat, drink and sometimes dance. Milonga is governed by certain laws called codigos. People are invited to dance by making eye contact, the so-called cabaceo (gentlemen) or mirada (ladies). We dance in the so-called in the roundabout, i.e. around the circle, in the opposite direction to the clock's hands, and we go to the dance floor after obtaining permission from the couple dancing in front of and behind. These are just a few of the codigos on milongas. First of all, the milonga is a place to meet and have fun. The photos from Rajska milonga below are taken by Sylwia Solak.
